The Sid Vale Association Local History Group seeks to encourage research into all areas of Sidmouth and Sid Valley history. The group supports local research through raising awareness of resources, particularly the considerable archives held in the new SVA headquarters, and through the dissemination and discussion of proposed projects and works in progress. By sharing of ideas and experiences the group can give real support and identify opportunities to potential and existing researchers in a wide variety of fields.
The meetings are for SVA members, 6 per year, to be held in the SVA Headquarters, and are free. Meetings are less formal than the SVA Talk events, and in no sense a replacement for them. Talks typically start at 2.30, with one or two short presentations and time for questions and discussion after each presentation. The meetings will finish by 4.00. All members of the group are free to contribute to the discussions and will be invited, if they wish, to present their work at some point. Whilst the aims of the group are clear, the actual format of the meetings can be subject to change, according to the number of attendees and new ideas.
The Convener/Chair of the SVA Local History Group is Phil Hobbs. If you would like to become a member of the group, please send Phil an email, preferably including what your special interests are. The email address is:
